BU’s Jim Petosa Named the Artistic Director of the New Repertory Theatre

Jim Petosa. Picture “borrowed” from the College of Fine Arts website at Boston University and used without permission.
Many years ago, I was at a theatre talkback at Boston University and noticed the particularly astute and concise comments being given by one of the older members of the audience. (There’s usually a clear division between the undergraduates and everyone else.) Afterwards, I made a point of seeking out that man to follow up on his comments. That was my first meeting with Jim Petosa, the director of the School of Theatre at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts.
Among his many other activities, Jim directed one production per season at the New Repertory Theatre in Watertown, MA. This made for some tight production schedules when he went from a mainstage production at BU directly to rehearsals at the New Rep, but it did mean that someone such as myself could compare his directing in back-to-back productions.
Today, I am happy to see that Jim Petosa has been named as the Artistic Director of the New Repertory Theatre. The Boston Globe ran the story first and the New Rep will be making a formal introduction at their annual Premiere Party on March 20.
Congratulations, Jim!
