Background and Rates

...In the Beginning...

My recording studies began back in 2001, when I studied computer and electronic music at the University of San Diego, under the direction of Christopher Adler. I had some background in live sound reinforcement, but this coursework gave me a formal foundation for studio work and spacialization. This in turn allowed me to begin making concert recordings and practicing editing, nosie reduction and mastering. After graduation, I continued to work as a freelance recording engineer and to record performances for the University of San Diego's music program. The rest, shall we say, is history - I do live sound and studio recordings of classical, theatrical and popular music and events around the Boston area.

Current Rates

Interested in having your demo, song or performance recorded? I offer a wide range of services, ranging from a basic no-frills package to advanced mutli-channel recordings with noise reduction and level correction. The best way to find out what I'd charge for a project is to just ask me. However, I can tell you some of the basic package prices:

Soloist Recital - Travel within 30 minutes

  • 60 minutes, 2 mic stereo recording - $75 (friends' rate: $45)
  • 90 minutes, 2 mic stereo recording - $100 (friends' rate: $70)

Ensemble Concert - Travel within 30 minutes

  • 90 minutes, 2 mic stereo recording - $100 (friends' rate: $70)
  • 90 minutes, 4 mic stereo recording - $125 (friends' rate: $100)
  • 120 minutes, 2 mic stereo recording - $120 (friends' rate: $90)
  • 120 minutes, 4 mic stereo recording - $150 (friends' rate: $110)

Discounts

I like to offer two forms of discounts: payment in kind and a general discount rate to friends and colleagues.

  • Payment in kind is a quid pro quo, an exchange of servicse rendered. For example, I might swap recording a recital for someone singing in one of mine, or making a recording. If you're interested in this option, the best thing is to contact me in advance so that I can fit in the exchange with other plans.
  • Friends' rates are just that - a discount offered to people that I know. Being a student or freelance musician is not exactly lucrative and I know how important recordings can be, so I offer a sizable discount to people that I'm acquainted with. If you've taken a class with me, performed with me or are otherwise acquainted, I'm happy to offer a strongly discounted rate.
